Have you ever been forgotten?
Maybe your mom forgot to pick you up from elementary school? Or maybe you weren’t invited to the party all of your friends were at?
If I’m being completely honest, sometimes I feel forgotten by God. I will pray, and pray, and pray, and pray some more, and I get no response. It’s like I’m banging on a window and can see Him gazing at me through the glass. I feel like I’m constantly seeing my friends’ prayers being answered, whether it be finding their spiritual calling or receiving some sort of miraculous sign from heaven. And I’m just…waiting.
Zechariah 10:6
“I will strengthen the house of Judah and deliver the house of Joseph. I will restore them because I have compassion on them, and they will be as though I had never rejected them. For I am the Lord their God and I will answer them.”
Habakkuk 2:3
“For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it testifies about the end and will not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, since it will certainly come and not be late.”
But, as always, there is hope. These verses are promises from God that you aren’t forgotten. Sometimes the waiting extends far beyond our comfort zone, but God still promises that the answer will come.Think about it, He wrote the story of your life. He knows what will happen to you in 5 weeks and He knows what happened to you 5 years ago; He knows just when to answer each and every prayer of yours. Rest knowing that your prayers are not distant from God. He sees you knocking on the window, but maybe it’s just not time for that window to open yet.
Maybe you don’t feel like your prayers have been forgotten, but, rather, you feel as if you have been forgotten. Friends, you have not been forgotten. The Gospel guarantees this in the parable of the lost sheep. Jesus tells the story of a shepherd who discovers one of his one hundred sheep have gone missing. The shepherd didn’t forget about this sheep, he didn’t abandon this sheep, he sought after the sheep until he found it. If you’ve wandered away, the Shepherd is looking for you. He hasn’t forgotten about you. He hasn’t let you go. He’s chasing after you.
Matthew 18:14
“In the same way, it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones perish.”
Friends, you are not forgotten. I am not forgotten. He always answers our prayers and He never lets us go astray. Our God is faithful. If He promises in Scripture that He will answer you, He WILL answer you. If He says He has perfect timing, WAIT for what He has to say to you. And if He says He won’t forget about you, He’s right there with you, ALWAYS.
People forget people, but God never forgets His children.
